Meet Newton

Newton is a 6 year old Shih-Tzu/Poodle Mix. Some like to call her a Shihnoodle or Shih-Poo. She prefers to be called “News.”

Newton has a very big personality. She is a big dog in a little dog body. Newton came to us by way of a strange ad in the paper and a trip out to Black Diamond to a dilapidated farm house on a dead end street. Not knowing what we were getting ourselves into, we had decided after taking one look at the house that no matter what the dog looked like we were taking it away from there. To our delight this little apricot bundle of joy came wobbling out of the gate and into our arms.

Newton grew up working with us in our mailing store at Pike Place Market. She was number one in her obedience class and was even selected to go on to duck herding school. She had more important business at the market, entertaining our customers.

Soon Newton became bored with the market job and wanted to stay at home guarding the roost with Peanut and Milo. Peanut's her best friend. Their favorite morning and evening activity is mouth wrestling. Every once in awhile things get a little rough and a time out needs to be called.

Shitzu-Poodles are great companion dogs. The Shituz part gives Newton the fluffy Lion-like face (miniature of course), and the poodle nose gives her the ability to be a great Rodent hunter.  Newton is probably one of the best rodent hunters in her neighborhood. I would put her head to head with any cat. There is one particular spot in our yard where the rodents like to live in the summer, under a step off our patio. Newton has the uncanny ability to tiptoe around the step just waiting for them to poke their little head out. She is very patient and can stay there for hours just tiptoeing back and forth. It is very cute to watch until “SPLAM” she’s got one.

Moving on to her more adorable traits, as a member of the poodle family, Newton is a very good herder. Which is why she was selected early on in life as a potential duck herder. Her favorite and I mean very favorite thing in the whole world is to carry socks. She doesn’t care what color or if they are clean or dirty just that they are socks. She will pull them out of your slippers, take them from the laundry but searches desperately for them each morning. To Newton, a perfect day is basking in the sun with a sock close by.
